History

The Suicide Prevention Partnership was established in 2001 as an initiative of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. That same year, U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher released the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, which defined suicide as a serious public health problem and set goals for federal, state, and community agencies and coalitions.

The Suicide Prevention Partnership combines the resources of the Irving and Barbara C. Gutin Charitable Foundation (established in 2000) and the Jeffrey Gutin Fund for Young Adults (established in 1995 at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation).

In its first five years, the Partnership has spent over $1.5 million for the development and implementation of suicide prevention programs. The Partnership will fund another $350,000 next year.
