Dear Friends,
The Suicide Prevention
Partnership recognizes that our country
is on a journey. The journey began with the recognition
of a nationwide problem that
often went unspoken – suicide. When viewed
as a public health problem we can step back from
the complex
individual reasons for suicide and identify trends
to inform our work.
Although suicide is an individual decision, we believe
that systemic changes – improving professional
practices, increasing public awareness, strengthening
mental health services – can prevent an individual
from taking his or her life. The National Strategy for
Suicide Prevention inspires our work. Though the work of the Suicide Prevention Partnership
reaches many, our work is inspired by an individual
-- our son Jeffrey, who ended his life in 1995. Our
goal is small and huge at the same time: to save one
life. We hope that this web site answers your questions about
the work we do, and that you will share in our vision
of preventing deaths by suicide.
Truly yours,
Irving and Barbara C. Gutin
